Before we could even begin this best mobile list we were greeted with the age old iPhone Android debate.. I, an android user; and massive lover of my own phone, had a very difficult time ranking these devices. IPhone’s in the same list as the likes of Pixel 2 and Samsung?? But there is no room to be biased; so I have to give you a non-biased ranking of 2018’s best smartphone’s. (but note I am very bitter about it)
From the good, to the amazing, to the absolute best.
The Honor 9 is a phone that I would call a strange, and rare miracle. A flagship, that excels in a multitude of areas, but without a hefty price tag to match. Something of a rarity for definite.
It sports a 5.1 inch display. 1080 x 1920 resolution. 20MP, 12MP and 8MP cameras. 64GB/128GB storage. 4GB/6GB RAM. 3200 mAh battery. The Honor 9 comes with a camera set up incredibly similar to Huawei’s P10, the 20MP and 12MP rear cameras take a photo each, simultaneously. These are then combined, giving a superb finish. This phone is definitely for you if you’re looking for performance, design, lots of extras that change a phone to a top phone, and a low price tag.
FlipKart had a flash sale of the Honor 9 Lite on January 21st, selling close to 150 units a second.
The iPhone of choice if you want new, but more cost effective. If you’re after something a bit more compact; so you’re not stuck lugging around a small tablet as a mobile, this device is suited to you. Even more so if you want a new iPhone, but don’t want, or can’t afford the iPhone X. The screen may not be as sharp as the 8 Plus, but the size makes for an all-round smoother in-hand experience. With a 4.7inch screen it is a much easier device to hold than its predecessors, but that comes at the price of having a 750 x 1334 resolution. 12MP and 7MP cameras, 2GB RAM, and 64GB or 256GB storage options put this device in a slightly lesser position.
Packing all that’s good in the android world, a powerful phone is the LG V30. It comes as a very impressive display of power, as well as performance. Th LG V30 is a redefined, sleek, more powerful version of the LG G6. With only a 5MP front camera, you’d assume this phone isn’t going to be very good, but don’t rule it out yet. It also has 2 12MP rear cameras, the most powerful processor around, 4GB RAM, with 64 or 128GB options. In addition to its 6 inch screen, 1440 x 2880 resolution and 3300 mAh battery. The V30 has an almost unrivalled audio performance, so a must if you want awesome sounding tunes.
Coming in with a 5.5inch screen. 4GB RAM. 64GB storage. 1440 x 2560 res. 12MP rear camera, as well as 16MP front camera is the U11+. This device has unrivalled audio, an impressive camera and comes in solar red which screams iron man! Much like the Pixel 2, the U11 featured squeezable sides, only they can be set to do different things on the HTC device, whereas the Pixel only gives you the option for it to bring up Google Assistant.
iPhone 8 Plus
While it boasts wireless charging, the traditional iPhone shape and lack of headphone jack, if you’re desperate for the X, this phone isn’t for you. The 8 Plus is the best value standard iPhone out there, with a slightly more affordable tag. The battery life is better than previous iPhones, and the improved screen, as well as camera makes for a nicer user experience. Two 12MP cameras sit on the back, with one 7MP on the front, 64GB or 256GB storage and 3GB RAM. This phone is an affordable option, not a head turner.
Huawei Mate 10 Pro
Huawei’s Mate 10 Pro climbed the ranks on our list, due to it’s impressive battery life of 4000 mAh. In addition to it being an incredibly powerful phone AND having rear cameras of 20MP and 12MP, while a nice little 8MP sits on the front. This device could last a day, and then some, from your typical overnight charge. It sits with 6GB RAM, 128GB storage and 1080 x 2160 res. The huge selling points of this phone are definitely the unbelievable battery life, coupled with the camera capabilities, though they require some fine tuning of the features yourself.
Galaxy Note 8
Amazing performance, camera and stylus fans can be pleased too. The 6.5 inch screen, coupled with 1440 x 2630 res make the overall display of this phone lovely to look at. The impressive picture quality is boasted by two 12MP rear cameras, and an 8MP front camera. 6GB RAM and 64GB, 128GB or 256GB storage options, this phablet is perfect if you want to jot things down quickly and easily, or if you’re thinking about dropping it into a puddle..
Galaxy S8 Plus
6.2inch screen, great quality camera, and impressive, fast performance. What’s not to love? The storage only has one option with this device, being 64GB with 4GB RAM. The impressive features of this device are the screen, with 1440 x 2960 res, and the way it wraps around the sides is so beautiful. In addition to the camera, power and battery life combination here being truly excellent. If you want a more expensive, but absolutely gorgeous device, this is the one for you.
An affordable flagship, with a fantastic camera. The rear cameras are 20MP and 16MP, while the front camera is 16MP, that’s some impressive image quality. You can store all those photos with 64GB or 128GB too. Running on 6 or 8GB RAM, this phone has made some small compromises in order to keep its price so low. There’s no QHD resolution display, stereo speakers or expandable storage, but these are very minor compromises to make for a phone that undercuts Samsung and Apple on price.
Coming in third is my personal favourite phone to ever exist (because I have it) we’ve all heard it, Pixel 2 has the best smartphone camera on the market, and it just got even better too. Thanks to the visual core chipset being switched on, improving the image quality through apps such as Whatsapp, Snapchat and messenger. I am here to tell you, that is absolutely 100% true, it’s the best camera the smartphone market has seen. The 12MP camera offers portrait mode, motion, and a host of other features that got it to top spot. It’s water resistant body means it could survive a dip in the bath (or getting wet while you listen to music in the shower). The front facing speakers mean the sound is directed straight at you (again with the shower music..
) 4GB keeps things running smoothly, while the 5 inch 1080 x 1920 screen is a beauty to look at.
And here it is, IN SECOND PLACE. The iPhone X. An incredibly luxurious phone, just pipped at the post for best phone. Boasting a 5.8inch screen, the X is far too big if you are hoping to get it into women’s jean pockets, but just fine if you’re going to pop it in your bag instead. 1125 x 2436 res helps make the screen one of the best loved by user. Two 12MP cameras, and a 7MP front camera mean he image quality is lovely (but not as good as Pixel 2) though it does come with a 256GB storage option.
Samsung Galaxy S8
There it is folks, in black and white, Samsung’s S8 is our winner. Lovely design, brilliant camera, amazing screen, Samsung bought it all to this device. 5.8 inch 1440 x 2960 screen, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, 12MP and 8MP cameras, it’s easy to see why Samsung came out on top. Although it started out as a brilliant, all be it expensive phone, it’s seen some price cuts since its original release last year, making it even better value for money now.
There you have it folks, Samsung’s Galaxy S8 has come out in pole position, again.
